Gina Gavlak, RN, BSN

Gina Gavlak is Diabetes Program Development Coordinator at Lakewood Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic hospital, and Diabetes and Endocrine Center, in Lakewood, Ohio. She is also a registered nurse in the emergency department at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. In her role at Lakewood Hospital, Gina is responsible for coordinating the programmatic and outreach efforts of the Diabetes and Endocrine Center to improve health outcomes and meet community needs. In both her professional roles, she focuses on diabetes prevention and management and works on ways to meet the needs of the insured, uninsured and underinsured.

Gavlak has been a volunteer of the American Diabetes Association for almost 20 years at the local and national levels. Nationally, Gina has served on the Inclusion Committee and Advocacy Committee where she served as Vice Chair for three years and is currently serving as Chair. She is also a member of the Prevention Committee, Safe at School Working Group and Legislative Subcommittee. Locally, Gavlak has been the Advocacy Chair for the Cleveland Community Leadership Board since 2005. She is actively involved in advocacy, fundraising, prevention and program efforts. Gavlak has represented the American Diabetes Association on Capitol Hill, at the Ohio statehouse and in multiple media interviews using her personal and professional experiences to share the human side of diabetes and advance the Association's efforts. Her extensive advocacy involvement earned her the American Diabetes Association Outstanding Advocacy Award in 2007. Gina holds a BS in Nursing from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
