Secretary/Treasurer

Patrick L. Shuler is Secretary/Treasurer of the American Diabetes Association, the nation's largest voluntary health organization leading the fight to Stop Diabetes®. He is also a Partner at Dixon, Hughes, Goodman, LLP, in Virginia Beach, Virginia and he has more than 25 years of experience in the accounting profession.

Shuler's 13 years of national service with the Association include current membership on the Board of Directors, having served as a member and past chair of the Finance Committee, and service on the Community & Volunteer Development Committee. In 2006, he received the American Diabetes Association's National Community-Based Outstanding Leadership Award and he has been honored locally for his successful volunteer recruitment that aligns corporations and resources with the Association. He is serving as Corporate Development Chair for the American Diabetes Association Community Leadership Board of Hampton Roads, VA. He is also a member of the Association's Pinnacle Society and Summit Circle.

In addition to his public accounting experience, Shuler has served as a Chief Financial Officer for a national organization and in other key financial and managerial roles in the private sector. He also works closely with the owners of small-to-medium-sized businesses, advising them on compliance with regulatory requirements relating to the presentation and reporting of accounting data. Additionally, he is a frequent lecturer for various states for continuing professional education and has received several awards for his instructed courses and exemplary leadership.

Shuler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.
