In an effort to increase awareness about diabetes, its complications and the importance of taking care of your skin, Beiersdorf, Inc., makers of Eucerin skin care products have joined the Association in its fight to Stop Diabetes®. To help accomplish this, Eucerin is providing educational materials on skincare for people with diabetes through our Living With Type 2 Diabetes Program and at local Association Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and Tour de Cure events across the country. Additionally, Eucerin is promoting their healthy skin messaging via our social media channels and in our consumer publication, Diabetes Forecast.
Boar's Head Provisions Co., Inc., a leading provider of premium delicatessen products, is a supporter of the movement to Stop Diabetes and works with the Association to champion diabetes prevention by promoting healthy lifestyle options through good eating habits and physical fitness. Boar's Head's also distributes healthy eating information and supports the Association's Recipes for Healthy Living program to help consumers live healthier.
Catherines, a chain of specialty fashion stores for plus size women, has continued to support our efforts to Stop Diabetes by raising funds for the Association and educating their customers about this devastating disease. They support the Association by holding an annual "Round Up to Stop Diabetes" fundraising campaign where shoppers at all Catherines stores were encouraged to help in the fight against diabetes by rounding up the total amount of their purchase to the next dollar. In addition, Catherines includes Stop Diabetes messaging in their Holiday mailers encouraging their customers to reduce their risk for diabetes.
Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt
As part of their efforts to encourage people to choose healthy foods and include yogurt as part of a nutritious meal plan, The Dannon Company, Inc. and its Light & Fit® yogurt have joined in the fight to help Stop Diabetes®. Dannon® supports two of the Association's important healthy living programs: Recipes for Healthy Living and Living With Type 2 Diabetes. Dannon is also helping us promote the importance of healthy lifestyle choices in preventing/managing diabetes by providing a variety of delicious recipes as well as tips and tools for healthier eating.
Davis Vision, a wholly owned subsidiary of HVHC, Inc., is a managed vision care company that serves more than 21 million vision care members from businesses and organizations. As a National Promotional Sponsor of Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, Davis Vision will help raise awareness about the connection between diabetes and eye complications alongside Visionworks, another division of HVHC, Inc. Together they will develop a National Step Out Team.
Dr. Comfort is a leading provider of foot care products for people with diabetes and supports the Association's efforts to Stop Diabetes®. Offering an array of products including shoes, inserts, socks, slippers, sandals and compression hosiery, Dr. Comfort works with foot health professionals to provide therapeutic footwear for those affected by diabetes. To help the Association raise additional awareness of the importance of foot care, Dr. Comfort provides educational materials through the Association's Center for Information and Community Support and Living with Type 2 Diabetes Program. In addition, they also engage local communities through their involvement at Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and Tour de Cure events.
For nearly two decades Gateway Heath has focused on improving the health of its members and the community by delivering and supporting programs and initiatives to promote health and wellness within the community. Gateway Health is working with the Association to communicate the importance of overall health and well-being. As a National Sponsor of Stop Diabetes®, Gateway Health will participate at local Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes® events and work together to build a corporate team that will participate in the Pennsylvania/Ohio area. Gold's Gym is a national sponsor of Tour de Cure, The American Diabetes Association's nationwide cycling event that helps to increase awareness about diabetes. Each year, Gold's Gym teams up with us to raise funds and promote the importance of physical activity in preventing and managing diabetes. Since 2004, Gold's Gym has been one of the Tour's Top Fundraising Teams and has raised over $3.2 million to support the mission of the Association. As part of their ongoing commitment to stop diabetes, Gold's Gym also conducts Spin-A-Thons, golf outings and other fundraising events across the country to raise additional money for the Association.
Hass Avocado Board
The Hass Avocado Board, an agriculture promotion group established to promote the consumption of Hass Avocados in the United States, has joined forces with the Association to help increase awareness about the risk factors of diabetes, particularly amongst Hispanics - a community disproportionately impacted by the disease. Through their "Fresh Avocados – Love One Today®" and "Aguacates Frescos – Saborea Uno Hoy®" (www.saboreaunohoy.com) programs, the Board will work with the Association to elevate their messaging around the nutritional benefits of fresh avocados and the importance of eating healthy to help prevent and/or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. To help accomplish this, new recipes and educational materials will be developed in English and Spanish and distributed through Association channels such as events, social media and diabetes.org.
Janssen Pharmaceuticals is teaming up with the Association and the Washington Redskins, on the team’s health and wellness initiative. In addition, Janssen is a Patron Sponsor of the Scientific Sessions, the world's largest meeting on diabetes. Janssen supported two awards presented at the meeting including the Harold Rifkin Award For Distinguished Internal Service In The Cause of Diabetes and the Outstanding Physician-Clinician Award In Diabetes. The company also supports American Diabetes Month.
