The Banting Medal for Scientific Achievement Award is our highest scientific award and honors an individual who has made significant, long term contributions to our understanding of diabetes, its treatment and/or prevention. The award is named after Nobel Prize winner Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin treatment for diabetes. This year's recipient is Robert A. Rizza, MD.

It is awarded to an individual whose outstanding service in the cause of diabetes has been performed with an international perspective and with international impact. This year's recipient is Peter H. Bennett, MB, ChB, FRCP, FFPH.
