Debbie Johnson, CPA, is Chief Financial Officer for the American Diabetes Association, the nation’s largest voluntary health organization leading the fight to Stop Diabetes®
Johnson joined the Association's Financial Services Division as Controller in 1998, bringing an extensive background in auditing and consulting services to nonprofit organizations.
Since taking the helm as Chief Financial Officer in 2005, Johnson has spearheaded numerous campaigns to streamline and automate the Association's financial practices to reduce overhead and expedite the flow of funds to key Association programs. Her passion for best practices and operating efficiencies is evident in the success of the expanded American Diabetes Association investment initiative, which netted an impressive 30 percent gain in investment income in the first year.
Prior to joining the American Diabetes Association, Johnson was Senior Manager with KPMG Peat Marwick, leading auditing and consulting engagements for a variety of nonprofit and public sector organizations. She also developed national education programs on best practices for nonprofit auditing and consulting engagements.
Johnson is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
