Alvin C. Powers, MD
Alvin Powers is the Joe C. Davis Chair in Biologic Science and Professor of Medicine, Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He is also the Director of the Vanderbilt Diabetes Center and Chief of the Vanderbilt Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism, where he conducts research related to type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
He joined the Association in 1986. He is currently the Chair of the Association’s Research Policy Committee and also serves on the Association’s national Research Foundation Board. He also serves on the Scientific Sessions Planning Committee and has previously served on the national Finance Committee.
Al received his doctor of medicine from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences and his bachelor of arts from the University of Virginia. After training in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center, he trained in endocrinology and diabetes at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard Medical School.
