The American Diabetes Association relies on its advocates to urge Congress and the Administration to support:
Increased Federal Funding for Research and Diabetes Prevention Programs
The Association urges Congress to increase funding for the CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation by $20.8 million, or one dollar for every American child and adult with diabetes, and increase diabetes research at the National Institutes of Health by a 8 percent, or $148.4 million.
Reauthorization of Special Diabetes Programs for Type 1 Research and Native Americans
The Association is urging Congress to re-authorize both these successful NIH programs set to expire.

Expansion of Stem Cell Research

Protection of Private Health Insurance for Patients with Diabetes
The Association is committed to expanding the number of people with diabetes who have insurance, and to ensuring that such coverage meets their health care needs. In the 109th Congress, the Association has successfully fought legislation that would jeopardize diabetes coverage protections.
Medicaid and Medicare Coverage for Diabetes
Many Americans depend on Medicaid and Medicare to cover their diabetes supplies and services. The Association closely monitors legislation and budget policy affecting Medicaid and Medicare coverage and advocates on behalf of recipients with diabetes.
