TRICARE Reserve Select

Untitled Document

TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS) is a new TRICARE health plan offered for purchase to certain members of the Reserve Component (Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve) and their families. Coverage under TRS can last from one to four years depending on your length of active duty service. You must also meet specific eligibility requirements to qualify.

Eligibility

To qualify for TRS, you must meet three criteria:

  • You must have been called or ordered to active duty, under Title 10, in support of a contingency operation on or after September 11, 2001. Contingency operations include Operations Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom.
  • You must have served continuously on active duty for 90 days or more to qualify. If you did not serve continuously for 90 days due to an injury, illness, or disease incurred or aggravated while activated, you may still be eligible for one year of TRS coverage.
  • You must have entered into an agreement to continue service in the Selected Reserve.

Purchasing TRS

There is a three step process to purchase TRS coverage:

  1. Reserve Component members separating from active duty after April 26, 2005 must enter into a service agreement before leaving active duty.
  2. Reserve Component members must execute a service agreement
    • Reserve Component members separating from active duty on or before April 26, 2005 will have until October 28, 2005 to execute a service agreement.
    • Reserve Component members separating from active duty after April 26, 2005 must work with their Service or Reserve Component unit to execute the agreement, though the agreement does not guarantee a Selected Reserve billet. Reserve Component members must be in the Selected Reserve by the time TRICARE Reserve Select coverage begins.
  3. Purchase TRICARE Reserve Select
    • Reserve Component members must complete the enrollment form, and submit it with one month’s premium to the TRICARE regional contractor so that it is received no later than 30 days before the end of the Transition Assistance Management Program (TAMP).
