Health Care Matters - Janet

Since her diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, Janet has struggled to obtain affordable insurance coverage to help her manage her diabetes.  “The doctor wrote me a prescription, but I had no money to fill it.”  She was forced to move out of her house and sell her car in order to pay for medication.  Janet was eventually able to obtain coverage through Medicaid, but years of undiagnosed and untreated diabetes have caused heart, kidney and neuropathy.  Read more.

 


 

Health Care Matters - Jeremiah

Jeremiah was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2007.  Now a huge portion of his monthly income goes to paying for his diabetes prescriptions and supplies.  Because Jeremiah has no insurance, he’s also had to delay treatment and care because of cost.  A small business owner, he’s tried to get insurance coverage for himself and his employees, but “it was going to be over $2,000 a month, and the coverage wasn’t even going to cover my diabetes, or kick in for a year... I’m not asking for the best care in the world, but just something.” Read more.
