| At age 33, Rachel was surprised when she was diagnosed with type
1 diabetes. She wondered why she got it. Her educator tells her
you can't catch diabetes. It's not from what you eat, and type 1
diabetes may not run in your family. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas
stops making insulin. Experts are still trying to find out why this
happens. Without insulin, the cells in Rachel's body can't use food
properly, and sugar builds up in her blood. |
