| Diabetes and Depression |
 |
| It's hard to hear that you have diabetes, and it's hard to live
with diabetes every day. There's never a break from diabetes. Caring
for your diabetes takes a lot of effort, and the burden can seem
like more than you can handle. Feeling sad and blue and depressed
at times is common among people with diabetes. But if you're feeling
down for more than two weeks, talk with your health care provider.
Don't put off asking for help. |

Diabetes raises your risk for serious depression. This is
nothing to feel ashamed of. Serious depression is a medical
problem. If you have serious depression, it can be hard to
get out of bed, do your work, or enjoy anything. You might
have trouble being with family and friends or taking care
of your diabetes. Treatment with counseling or medicine can
help you feel better, and you can take charge of your diabetes
again.
