1999

  • Miss America 1999, Nicole Johnson, serves as ADA national spokesperson on Alert Day and participates in the Alert Day activities in New York City.

  • The Empire State Building is lit up in red in observance of Alert Day.

  • Gary Hall, Olympic Gold Medalist in Swimming, appears on Rosie to talk about Alert Day.

  • ADA’s introduces first “viral” or e-mail a risk test to a friend campaign.

  • NYC placed banners in Penn Station the week leading up to Alert Day. On Alert Day they conducted seat drops, so every commuter traveling on the Long Island Railroad received a copy of the risk test. In addition, volunteers and staff had informational tables and distributed brochures to all commuters at Penn Station and Grand Central Station. Madison Square Garden promoted Alert Day on their marquee in mid-town.
