Colorado - ADA Camp Colorado

The American Diabetes Association’s Camp Colorado is held at beautiful Eagle Lake camp in the heart of Pike National Forest. Only 9 miles outside of Woodland Park, CO and a short distance from Colorado Springs, Camp Colorado is an idyllic summer camp setting. We encourage each camper to learn something new about diabetes management but never force education. At Camp Colorado we believe that each camper will take something away that is specific to that campers stage of development. And with three Camp programs, one is sure to excite your child! Here are the programs we offer:

Camp Dates:  June 29 - July 4, 2008

Contact Information: April Henderson, 800-676-4065 ext. 7019 or aphenderson@diabetes.org

Cost: See specific programs below

ADA Camp Colorado is now full. Online registration is closed. If you would like to inquire about possible open spots on waiting list, or would like to receive the 2009 ADA Camp Colorado Brochure next year, please contact April Henderson in Denver ADA office at 800-676-4065 ext. 7019 or aphenderson@diabetes.org. If you are placed on the waiting list, we will let you know as soon as possible if a spot becomes available.

Residential Camp, Boys & Girls, 8-17

“Rez” Camp is what most people think of when summer camp is mentioned. Most campers stay in cabins on bunk beds and have the opportunity to do a number of Camp activities. Archery, canoeing, riflery, swimming, crafts, camp Olympics, and capture the flag are familiar activities on the program agenda. Some new ones you might not have heard of before include the flight simulator (AKA “Vomitron”), the “blob” aqua jump, and the zipline.

COST: Members $540, Non-Members $580
(*Cost does include $50 non-refundable deposit due upon initial registration)

Equestrian Camp, Girls only, 12-17

Does your daughter love horses? If so, then this is the program for her! Equestrian camp combines the fun of trail riding with the skill required for dressage, tack care, jumping, and horsemanship. CHA certified instructors work with campers throughout the week to ensure that your horse loving gal is learning something new. Campers are also able to do many of the activities available to “rez” campers!

NOTE:  Because of space limitations, priority will be given to those campers who have never attended Camp Colorado Equestrian Camp. However, returning campers have the option of going to REZ Camp as well as placement on the waiting list.

COST: Members $655, Non-Members $695*
(*Cost does include $50 non-refundable deposit due upon initial registration)

Wilderness Camp, Boys & Girls, 14-17

Wilderness camp is designed especially with teens in mind! Camper activites are created to promote leadership and team building with the intent of encouraging teens to become mentors. Common activities include rock climbing, rappelling, bouldering, mountain biking, white water rafting, ropes course, and more!

COST: Members $560, Non-Members $600
(*Cost does include $50 non-refundable deposit due upon initial registration)

Important Camper Application Information

There are two ways to begin your registration process for American Diabetes Association (ADA) Camp.

1. Download the Camp Brochure. Complete and mail the Camp Brochure pre-registration form with required fee(s) to your local ADA office (address is on brochure).

Upon receiving your pre-registration form, the American Diabetes Association will mail a complete application packet to you. Complete and return these forms via U.S. Postal Mail to the local ADA as soon as possible so that your application can be processed.

OR

2. Begin your Camper registration online.

Once you are done completing the online registration, you will be redirected to this page to download the following Supplemental Camper Application Forms, which require parent/guardian signatures or signatures from your child’s health care provider:

• Supplemental Camper Application Forms for Child with Diabetes

Submit these forms via U.S. Postal Mail to your local American Diabetes Association as soon as possible so that your complete application can be processed.

Once all Camper Application forms and payments are received online and via mail, the local American Diabetes Association will contact you regarding acceptance to Camp and provide you with additional information about Camp (i.e., check-in information, what to pack).

IMPORTANT: Completion of these steps holds a spot at Camp for your child until we have reached program capacity. You must complete and submit all Supplemental Camper Application forms and payment at least 10 days prior to the Camp session to secure this spot for your child. All camper forms are reviewed by our Camp medical team to ensure that we can accommodate your child and provide a safe environment for them to fully participate in the camping program.

*Financial aid available for those that qualify
