About Mountain Youth Retreat

The American Diabetes Association Montana Youth Retreat is held on the Camp On The Boulder property south of Big Timber. Camp On The Boulder provides services for the American Diabetes Association Montana Youth Retreat on a contract basis. Camp On The Boulder facility includes dormitories with indoor bathroom facilities, a main lodge and dining halls. All facilities are heated.

The American Diabetes Association Camp Diamont was established in 1970, Teen Retreat in 1985 and in 1999 the programs were combined to form the Montana Youth Retreat to meet the needs of families and children with diabetes. While the primary objective of retreat is to provide a safe, fun, traditional retreat experience, attention to the medical needs of each retreater is always a priority. Each retreater has the opportunity to learn and practice valuable diabetes self-management techniques under medical supervision.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

CIT Program
The Counselor-In-Training Program gives 16 or 17 year old teens an opportunity to learn leadership skills and be a role model for younger retreaters. Participation in the CIT program is determined upon submission of a completed application and an interview/selection process with the CIT and ADA Director. The number of participants is limited. All CIT's take part in all the fun Youth Retreat activities, but are also receiving training to be a future retreat counselor.

Overnight Backpacking Trip:
Retreaters ages 13-17 can take the opportunity to sleep under the stars and learn about diabetes management in the wilderness. Retreaters hike off-site for 24 hours and return on-site to join in all the festivities. The number of participants is limited.
