TrialNet

TrialNet Launches First Studies in Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet is a network of 18 diabetes centers dedicated to the study, prevention, and early treatment of type 1 diabetes. TrialNet is supported by the National Institutes of Health, as well as other major diabetes organizations. TrialNet is currently enrolling individuals with type 1 diabetes into an exciting Diabetes Intervention Study. The goal of this study is to preserve insulin-producing cells in persons recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes that are 12 to 35 years of age.

TrialNet is also currently conducting a Natural History Study. This observational study of relatives of a person known to have type 1 diabetes, will assess risk factors associated with diabetes development. It will also help to identify persons who may be eligible for a Diabetes Prevention Study. Other Diabetes Intervention Studies for recently diagnosed individuals will begin enrollment during the coming months. In addition, TrialNet will soon be launching Diabetes Prevention Studies to evaluate therapies aimed at delaying or preventing the onset of type 1 diabetes.

TrialNet is funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, all parts of the National Institutes of Health under the Department of Health and Human Services. The American Diabetes Association supports the initiative.
