Writer's GuidelinesReflections
This column is generally a first-person narrative focusing on some emotional aspect of living with diabetes. The tone can be serious, humorous, or anything in between, and we tend to select pieces that explore a single theme. The submission should be about 500 to 550 words. Err on the side of length, since the piece can always be edited down to fit the space. Also, you should keep a copy of anything you send to us. We receive a large number of submissions, and can only publish about 25% of them. The process of selecting and editing submissions can be lengthy. It often takes six months to a year for a piece to be published. If selected, your article may be edited heavily to conform to ADA style and policies. Edited articles are returned to authors for review and, if necessary, corrected before publication. We do not pay our authors, but are very appreciative of those who write. If your piece is accepted, you will receive a byline and complimentary copies of the issue. Please be advised that acceptance of your work for publication in Diabetes Forecast magazine will constitute a transfer from you to the American Diabetes Association, Inc. of full ownership of all rights, titles and interests, including copyright. Stories published in Forecast might also be selected for use on the ADA Web site. If you have any questions, please email us.
