Our thanks go to the Banting Circle Supporters for joining the American Diabetes Association in the fight to stop diabetes. The following information profiles how these companies support the efforts of the Association to advance the fight against diabetes and improve the lives of those affected by diabetes.

Banting Circle Elite 2010

Eli Lilly supports the American Diabetes Association’s Wisdom Kits given to children newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and the Association’s Diabetes Camp Program by providing insulin and glucagon and engaging their own staff to volunteer. They also support the Association’s new initiative, Living With Type 2 Diabetes as well as community education through their participation in nationwide Diabetes EXPOs held in 11 U.S. cities.

In addition, Lilly sponsors the Outstanding Educator and Outstanding Scientific Achievement awards at the Association’s Scientific Sessions, the largest diabetes meeting in the world.

Merck & Company continues to support diabetes research through the American Diabetes Association-Merck Clinical/Translational Science Postdoctoral Fellowship awards. They also continue to support the Association’s Cardiometabolic Risk Initiative to raise awareness about preventing type 2 diabetes and heart disease, and this past year helped to fund the presenting of the Association’s Master’s Course in Advanced Clinical Management of Diabetes and Its Complications.

Merck is also a Patron sponsor of the Association’s Scientific Sessions, and supported two awards: the Renold Award, given for achievement in diabetes research, and the Kelly West Award, which is awarded for excellence in the field of diabetes epidemiology.

Novo Nordisk continues to further our research efforts through the American Diabetes Association-Novo Nordisk Clinical/Translational Science Research Awards. In addition, Novo Nordisk supports fellowships in legal advocacy, where the Association assists those with diabetes to better understand their rights and legal protections and prevent discrimination. Novo Nordisk is also a major sponsor of the Association's Scientific Sessions. novo Nordisk provides funding to support a study of aherence in diabetes patients, which is being conducted to understand those factors which influence successful diabetes management.

The company also supports patient education at the community level through Diabetes EXPO as a national sponsor, and is the National Premier Sponsor of Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. As a National Red Strider sponsor of Step Out, the company is encouraging more people with diabetes to become more active and healthy.

Sanofi-Aventis supports the American Diabetes Association by providing research funding to better understand clinical interventions leading to improvements in diabetes care delivery. In addition, they support education in diverse local communities through their involvement in Feria de Salud and are a nationwide sponsor of EXPO.

Sanofi Aventis is also the official sponsor for the Dribble to Stop Diabetes campaign, an alliance between the National Basketball Association, the Women’s National Basketball Association, the NBA Development League and the American Diabetes Association. This program, under the NBA FIT umbrella, reaches consumers, health professionals, and millions of NBA and WNBA fans across the country by using the fun activity of dribbling a basketball as a platform for promoting healthy, active lifestyles.

2010 Banting Circle

The Abbott Fund enables the American Diabetes Association to support the Safe at School Campaign, which is dedicated to making sure all children with diabetes are medically safe at school and have the same educational opportunities as their classmates. Abbott also supports Association events throughout the country, including Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, Tour de Cure, EXPO, and Por Tu Familia.

Amylin Pharmaceuticalscontinues their support of the Distinguished Clinical Scientist Award (DCSA), the Association’s largest annual award that recognizes outstanding scientists who have advanced the field of patient-oriented diabetes research. In addition, Amylin provides funding to support a study of adherence in diabetes patients, which is being conducted to understand those factors which influence successful diabetes management. The company also provides educational support at the Association’s Scientific Sessions.

BD Diabetes Care supports and provides supplies to the American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Camp Program, which focuses on diabetes management and education for children living with type 1 diabetes. In addition, BD supports local community events across the country such as EXPO, Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, and Tour de Cure.

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals is a Patron supporter of the American Diabetes Association’s Scientific Sessions, the largest diabetes meeting in the world. The company also supports the Association’s new initiative, Living with Type 2 Diabetes, as well as local community events across the country such as Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and Tour de Cure.

Takeda Pharmaceuticals supports research grants such as the American Diabetes Association/Takeda Pharmaceuticals Cardiovascular Complications in Diabetes Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards and the American Diabetes Association/Takeda Pharmaceuticals Beta Cell Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards. Takeda also supports the Association’s Scientific Sessions through their sponsorship of the Abstracts2View CD, which educates clinicians and enhances their knowledge of emerging diabetes research presented at the meeting.
