This PowerPoint presentation was developed as part of the Diabetes in the Latino Population series and used in the five workshops held in San Francisco; Washington, DC; New York; Orlando; and San Diego in 2004 and 2005.
This information can be used in any presentations that address diabetes in the Latino population or for study groups and trainings (no continuing education credit is available for this activity).
Helping your Latino patients achieve blood glucose goals by:
- Setting appropriate glycemic targets.
- Recognizing that type 2 diabetes is progressive -- what works now may not work in the future.
- Prescribing the correct type and dosage of medications.
- Using insulin therapy as a positive alternative instead of as a threat.
This presentation will address:
- The medical ways in which diabetes affects the Latino population.
- Current standards of care for detecting and monitoring the complications of diabetes.
- Current treatment options to maximize glycemic control and reduce the risk of complications of diabetes.
