ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 10, 2008) –The American Diabetes Association (ADA), the leading non-profit health organization dedicated to preventing and curing diabetes and to improving the lives of the nearly 21 million children and adults currently living in the United States with the disease, announced today that Nash M. Childs of Wilmington, DE was elected Vice Chair of the Board.

Childs has been an ADA volunteer at the community, regional and national levels for 20 years.  His national service with ADA has included a previous term on the Board of Directors, and as a member of the Fund Raising, Audit, Finance, Nominating and Community & Volunteer Development committees.  At the local level, Childs served as Chairman and Board Member in the former ADA Delaware affiliate and has co-chaired the Delaware Leadership Council’s Golf committee since 2002.  He is also a member of the ADA’s Pinnacle Society and Summit Circle.

Childs is Executive Vice President of Bancroft Construction Company in Wilmington, Delaware and a member of the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers.  He graduated from the University of Delaware - College of Engineering with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree.

Diabetes is a serious disease that affects the body’s ability to produce or respond properly to insulin, a hormone that allows blood sugar to enter the cells of the body and be used for energy.  Nearly 21 million children and adults have diabetes in the United States.  It is the fifth deadliest disease in the U.S. and it has no cure.
