Evansville, IN — Gala

June 14, 2007

Wow, what a great event that I attended for the American Diabetes Association. I had a great time in Evansville, IN, as I visited the St. Mary’s Hospital during the day and attended and spoke at their Gala that night.

During my visit to the hospital, I was toured around by their marketing director, Keith Gander. He did a wonderful job. One of the departments that I specifically remember was the Angina department, which deals with the heart. The man’s name was Mr. Joe Winterman. He was head of the department, and explained to me how all of the machines worked and in what kinds of cases they use them for. It was a great learning experience to see how his machines operated on others.

I also went to a separate building that helped people who don’t have insurance, or don’t have the money to pay for their medical supplies or needs. This was a great facility that people were helping people no matter the condition. They had many great nurses and a few doctors that came in a couple of times per week.

The hospital department was a great place to see. I had much fun seeing how machines worked, visiting patients, meeting doctors, and touring the hospital.

After I went to the hospital, it was time for the Gala. The Gala was set up very nicely. First there was a “Meet and Greet, Justin Harris”, which was nice. I got to meet some very nice people and meet kids with diabetes also. Then it was time for the Gala. Miss America and I were the two speakers of the event, and we had a great time. There was a silent and live auction that raised numerous dollars for the ADA.

Overall, I was very glad to be apart of the Gala and the hospital. It was a very nice time and event. I had a nice time and the people were so gracious.

Remember, become an advocate.
