Speaking at Pikeville, KY Medical Hospital with the Kentucky State Government

April 26, 2007

Today, I traveled with the Governor of Kentucky, Governor Ernie Fletcher, First Lady of Kentucky, Lady Glenna Fletcher, Secretary of Health Mark Birdwhistell, and Representative Chris Corbin to Pikeville, KY, to talk about our Get Healthy Initiative that we have formed as a team.

The Get Healthy Kentucky program is designed to portrayed to Kentuckians about how to be healthy, stay healthy, and live a healthier life. Kentucky has done a great job in succeeding with this great plan, and it is working very well. Like I said before, it is a team of five, who travel about once or twice a month to a different place in Kentucky, to promote Get Healthy Kentucky. We have a website, www.gethealthy.ky.gov, that is highly recognized by our Kentucky State Government, which provides a lot of information for youth, teens, adults, and seniors, who want to stay healthy. Governor Fletcher has done a great job in helping us with this Initiative. He has done a tremendous job in working with the Senate and House with both parties. I commend him for what a leadership role he has taken in our Kentucky State Government.

When we arrived in Pikeville, KY, we were about 30 minutes behind because of the bad weather we had. We started out with a message from the CEO of the hospital, as he introduced me to speak. I spoke for about 10 minutes, telling my story, and the purpose and goals we had in the Get Healthy Kentucky plan. I then introduced Secretary Mark Birdwhistell. He has done a tremendous job as well working with the Governor, I am glad that we have a man like him in our government. He spoke, along with the Governor, Chris Corbin, the first lady, and then the Mayor of Pike County, Mayor Justice III.

The event went well, and everything went as planned, with all of our award recipients present. I am glad that I get to work so close with the Governor and his team. It is a privilege to be under his command and leadership.
