Justin's Journal: Jog-A-ThonThursday, April 27, 2006Today was the day we were to do the sixth annual jog-a-thon/walk-a-thon at Lexington Christian Academy. We had been planning for this event since the day I presented it to the school. The Kentucky Governor, Dr. Ernie Fletcher, Teresa Isaac, State Representative Chris Corbin, State Senator Alice Forgey Kerr, Dr. Hacker, and Vice Chair of the Board of the American Diabetes Association Stewart Perry were all to attend to speak. That morning, we had the PS-3 graders walk around our football field on the track and do a mini workout session for fun. They were there until noon and then left. Our attendees were scheduled to arrive by 1:45 p.m. Shortly after Noon, we prepped the stage and completed all of the little to-dos before our time ran out. At 1:15, our attendees started arriving as well as our 4-6, jr. high, and sr. high. They were walking out to our football field as the stage was set-up in the middle. By 1:45, everyone had arrived including the Governor who was coming in with security. As our band played, we had the 4-6 graders make a tunnel for the Governor to walk through, from his limo to the middle of the football field where the stage was. As we settled onto the stage, Dr. Gibbs, Lexington Christian Academy's headmaster, began our program with a prayer and a welcoming statement. Then the following people spoke: Stewart Perry, me, Chris Corbin, Senator Kerr, and the Governor. The day went just as we had planned; God provided us with a beautiful sunny day. After our event was over and the students were doing aerobics, I was interviewed by the local media: WKYT -- Channel 27, Channel 10, and the Jessamine Journal. The past 2 weeks were a huge success! We raised more than $50,000 for diabetes research! YAHOO! For now!!
