Resources

Following is a listing of some resources that may be of help to you in learning more about diabetes. While this list is nowhere near complete, it gives an overview of the types of resources available. Finding even more information is as simple as logging on to the Internet.

To find Web sites, just go to your favorite search engine and type in "diabetes" and "children" or other key words. To find books, log onto an online bookseller and do a similar search. You'll come up with dozens of resources!

Advocacy
The American Diabetes Association is the only organization that works to help families of youth with diabetes fight school discrimination. We also advocate for increased federal funding of diabetes research and medical insurance coverage, and we help youth learn how to help themselves through advocacy.

Books & Resources
The American Diabetes Association publishes new books every year to help families living with diabetes. Like 487 Really Cool Tips for Kids with Diabetes. This book was written by two brothers with diabetes, and is jam-packed with tips on everything from playing sports to counting carbs, from dealing with hormones, to checking blood glucose.

Diabetes Camp
We are committed to outdoor recreational activities for children including day and resident camps and retreat events. The ADA is the largest provider of these events in the world.

Family Resource Network
No one should have to fight diabetes alone -- especially your child and and you. Trained parent volunteers are ready to help you through the day to day challenges of diabetes with information and support.

National Youth Advocate
Meet Justin Harris, the American Diabetes Association's 2006-2007 National Youth Advocate, and learn how your child can get involved.

Parents' Enewsletter
Subscribe our Parents' Enewsletter and twice monthly you'll get a great update of news, information, and articles just for parents of kids with diabetes.

Print-On-Demand (PODs)
Our PODs provide detailed information on specific topics, from type 2 diabetes in youth to an overview of insulin delivery devices.

Research for a Cure
The ADA continues to fund research to find a cure for diabetes and to improve the lives of people with diabetes. The projects we support cover the spectrum from islet cell biology and transplantation techniques to studies in diabetes education and treatment. And we are quickly increasing our support for research, providing $36.5 million in 2004 and $40 million in 2005.

School Walk for Diabetes
School Walk for Diabetes is an educational school fund-raising program that promotes community service, school spirit, and healthy living to students. Participants learn about diabetes and diabetes prevention while raising money to fund diabetes research, information, and advocacy. Bring this wonderful program to your child's school!

Wizdom® Kit
Wizdom is the kit of wit and wisdom for kids with diabetes and their families. Each kit contains two books -- one for parents and one just for kids with diabetes. Each book outlines everything you need to know to get started "juggling" diabetes -- that is, juggling food, insulin, and exercise.

Youth Zone® Web site
The Youth Zone is the cool site just for kids with diabetes. From meal plans and insulin schedules to exercise and the social scene, we have the information kids want to know about diabetes. Plus, check out our fun games and lots, lots more.
