Stand-Up for Diabetes Gala

November 11, 2006

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is doing well and they remembered to check their blood glucose and took their insulin.

This past Saturday, I went to our local, 14th annual Stand-Up for Diabetes Gala. This has been an amazing event for years and I was glad to be a part of it. I was invited to speak this year as the National Youth Advocate. Our local news was there, the one and only Stewart Perry, and the great Chair of the Board of the Association, Mr. Larry Smith. The event started out with a large silent auction. There were tons of things to choose from and I bought a few things: dinner with our Mayor of Lexington, gift cards to tons of restaurants and some things for my sister. After the auction ended, we went into the ballroom to start the Gala meeting.

The Gala was set up nicely. There were lots of tables with white table cloths, a ballroom floor to dance on at the end, and a great dinner. The main point of the dinner was to raise money for diabetes research and to spread awareness about this disease. As the event went on, we gave out awards for our local America's Walk for Diabetes, honored Larry Smith, and then I talked about diabetes in our youth.

This was a great night and I was so excited to be invited to speak this year.

Remember to check your blood glucose (sugar) and give yourself insulin!
