Calling All Youth Advocates!


The National Youth Advocate position is open to young people ages 12-17 years old (as of August 1) with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Candidates should have either experience or a willingness to speak publicly at various events throughout the year, and should be available to travel with a parent or guardian.  Please note that children of ADA staff or children of members of the ADA Advocacy Committee are not eligible.

National Youth Advocate Obligations
The National Youth Advocate has the following responsibilities:

  • Commit to a one-year term as the American Diabetes Association's National Youth Advocate.
  • Work in close coordination with Association staff to communicate diabetes advocacy message via camps, website, media and to policymakers.
  • Attend training at the American Diabetes Association National Office in Alexandria, VA in the fall.
  • Serve on National Advocacy Committee as Ex Officio member and attend 2 meetings (March and September).
  • Commit to working with staff to keep an online journal of the experiences as the National Youth Advocate.
  • Travel to Diabetes Camps and other Association events throughout the year.
