Unlike many other diseases, diabetes is largely self-managed. In order to stay healthy, people with diabetes must carefully manage their blood glucose levels. This requires having access to doctors visits, medications, training and supplies like blood glucose monitors and test strips.
The lack of insurance and high health care costs can forcing people to forgo the care they need to prevent, delay or slow diabetes progression. We are fighting to make sure that people don't have to cut back on — or even go without — the care they need.
We are committed to expanding the number of people with diabetes who have insurance, and to ensuring that coverage is adequate, affordable and available.
Expanding Health Coverage and Fighting State Rollbacks
We encourage state legislators to oppose efforts to eliminate or reduce diabetes coverage.
Medicaid and Medicare Coverage for Diabetes
Due to the major role that both Medicaid and Medicare play in the provision of health care for people with, and at risk for diabetes, we oppose cuts that may result in the weakening of diabetes coverage.
