About the Camp

The purpose of Camp Needlepoint is to provide a fun and safe camping experience for children living with diabetes. We want to give kids the opportunity to meet other kids just like them as well as help them gain confidence and independence in managing their diabetes.

Camp is located at YMCA Camp St. Croix, south of Hudson, WI on a wooded bluff along the St. Croix River. Facilities include: a 24 hour health center, dining hall, crafts building, nature building, tennis and basketball courts, soccer fields, archery range, sand volleyball court, rope course and horseback riding area. The beach is equipped for canoeing, sailing, kayaking and swimming.

CIT Information

The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program was created as a transitional stage from camper to staff. CIT's are expected to display responsibility, maturity and a positive attitude. They are a highly visible group amongst campers and are often looked up to as role models.

Age requirement: We require that CITs are 17 years old by the time camp starts.

Time Commitment: The CIT program is a two week commitment with three days of training before camp begins. You are required to stay on camp property during each camp session and the weekend between sessions.

There is no fee associated with this program. Applicants are selected based upon completion of an application, personal references and interview.

Pioneers (Ages 8-9)
Offered: Session 1 and Session 2
Fees: $660 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: An active and exciting program for campers away from home for the first time. Pioneers will be busy swimming, creating art projects, campfires, making new friends, and much more!

Explorers (Ages 8-10, 1/2 week program)
Offered: Session 1 and Session 2
Fees: $355 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: This program is for first-time Needlepoint campers that would like to "sample" what camp is all about without staying the entire week. Campers will enjoy the various camp activities within a small cabin group. Campers are at camp Sunday through Wednesday.

Trailblazers (Ages 10-11)
Offered: Session 1 and Session 2
Fees: $660 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: Trailblazers are in for an adventure. Campers will enjoy the experience of cabin-living at camp. The week will include swimming, nature hikes, boating, arts & crafts and other camp activities.

Sailors (Ages 12-14)
Offered: Session 1 and Session 2
Fees: $700 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: This program is designed for the camper who is interested in learning the adventure and skills of sailing. Focus on basic sailing techniques, equipment, knots and more. Campers will also participate in other program areas.

Climbers (Ages 12-14)
Offered: Session 1 and Session 2
Fees: $740 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: This "rockin" program will include group initiatives and team building, bouldering, team high ropes course, outdoor tower climbing and indoor gym climbing. Campers will also be involved in other camp activities.

 Trotters (Ages 12-14) - NEW in 2016
Offered: Session 1 and Session 2
Fees: $740 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: Campers visit the stables each day building confidence and learning the basics of Western Riding. This program teaches beginning riders basic horsemanship such as horse safety, grooming, and ring and trail riding. In addition, campers will spend time at the St. Croix Training Center.

Homesteaders (Ages 12-14)
Offered: Session 1 and Session 2
Fees: $685 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: Can't decide which program you want to do? Homesteaders lets you try them all: sailing, climbing, horseback riding, and canoeing.

Rockers (Ages 14-16, Co-ed program)
Fees: $785 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: On Belay! Learn the basics of rock climbing or fine tune current skills. Experience everything from Team Ropes to Outdoor Tower Climbing at camp. The program is highlighted by a overnight camping trip to Taylor's Falls. Campers will also be involved in other camp activities.

Windjammers (Ages 14-16, Co-ed program)
Fees: $720 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: Take command over wind and water as a Windjammer! Review basic sailing skills on Sunfish sailboats progressing to inland scow sailboats and keelboats. Time will also be spent enjoying other program areas. Previous sailing experience not required.

Wranglers (Ages 14-16, Co-ed program)
Fees: $785 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: Giddy up! The Wrangler program builds confidence and skills while learning the basics of western riding at the camp stables. An added bonus is the opportunity to learn English style riding techniques provided by the St. Croix Equestrian Center just south of camp.

Voyagers (Ages 14-16, Co-ed program) Offered: Session 1 ONLY
Fees: $720 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: Canoeing is one of the oldest yet most adventurous of camp traditions! There's no way of getting closer to nature than a canoe trip! This program includes a four day canoe trip as well as in-camp activities.

Trekkers (Ages 14-16, Co-ed program)
Offered: Session 1 and Session 2
Fees: $700 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
This in-camp program is for campers that would like to experience all that camp has to offer including traditional camp activities, team building and more.

Leadership Development Program (LDP) (Age 16)
Session 1 and 2 - TWO week Co-ed program
Fees: $1,185 plus $35 non-refundable deposit
Description: Campers participate in this two-week leadership program for developing confidence and leadership skills. Prepare for future leadership roles while experiencing the different programs of Camp. This program runs from August 14-27 including the weekend.

Immunizations

All American Diabetes Association campers and staff at 2016 Diabetes Camps are required to be up to date on immunizations. More information can be found in the Camp application and supplemental forms. For questions, contact your local American Diabetes Association office.
