Fall is the time to enroll for health insurance and, beginning in 2014 under the health care reform, all plans will include benefits that people with diabetes have not always had available to them. Are you aware of how this will affect you? Learn more about the benefits, the various plans that are available, enrolling during the enrollment period, and what this will mean to you whether you have had insurance in the past or not.

School & Diabetes: Providing a Positive Experience for Your Child

We want our children to enjoy school, but having diabetes can present some obstacles for your child. Learn about writing Diabetes Medical Management Plans and 504 Plans. Educate school personnel about testing blood sugars, administering insulin, and the need to have snacks available in the classroom. Get information on your child's rights for rescheduling tests if blood sugars are high/low prior to tests, participating in class field trips, and getting nutritional information about school lunches. Help your child succeed in school while managing diabetes.

I Don't Want Diabetes; What Can I Do To Prevent It?

If you are at high risk for developing diabetes or have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes this session will provide you with resources to lower your risk for being diagnosed with diabetes. The National Diabetes Prevention Program is a 12-month program held throughout Minnesota teaching participants in a group setting how to include physical activity and eating healthy into daily life. Lifestyle coaches help participants recognize barriers to their success and the group setting provides support and a time to share options for dealing with challenges along the way.
