Anchorage Support Groups
Southcentral Foundation has a diabetes support group the first Monday of each month. If it falls on a holiday the group will meet the following Monday. The group meets at the Health Education and Wellness Center, 4201 Tudor Centre Drive, 2nd floor from noon to 1:30pm. Childrens Hospital at Providence has a diabetes support group for parents and guardians of children with diabetes. The group meets the first Tuesday of each month, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, in the Aspen room in the main hospital campus on the basement level. Providence Diabetes & Nutrition Center is offering a two hour class designed specifically for people with pre-diabetes. This class will provide practical tips and tools to help prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes. Instruction will be provided by a registered dietitian and will include information on meal planning, physical activity and achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. This class is offered on the following Tuesdays from 8-10am: September 16th, and November 11th. Evening times also available on Tuesdays 4-6pm: October 21, and December 16th. Alaska Regional Hospital Health Management Center. Learning you have Diabetes can be frightening and learning how to manage it can be overwhelming at the very least. The Diabetes Staff at the Health Management Center understands this and has the caring and compassion to help alleviate your fears, and knowledge and experience to help you manage your Diabetes successfully. In keeping with the American Diabetes Association standards, The Taking Control Program is a series of group education classes offered weekly for 9 weeks. The classes are designed to provide you with the skills and the practical knowledge to successfully take control of your Diabetes and your life. Educators include: Registered Nurse; Registered Dietitian and Masters prepared Exercise Physiologist. Classes are held Tuesdays 6:00-7:30pm, the next series begins October 21st. A physicians order and a commitment to attend the complete series is required. There is no charge for this program, but please call to reserve your spot. Alaska Health Fairs
Alaska Health Fair, Inc. (AHF) has provided health & safety education and preventative screenings in Alaska since 1980. Our Vision is optimal health for all Alaskans, our Core Purpose is to promote wellness and save lives. AHF health fairs happen in the Spring and Fall each year – statewide! We do over 100 health fairs annual in over 60 different communities all open to the public.
