The American Diabetes Association's Central Texas office provides great local programs for workplaces, youth, people living with diabetes, and their friends and family.
Por tu familia
Diabetes is an urgent health problem in the Latino community. The rates of diabetes in Latinos are almost double those of non-Latino whites. The Por tu familia ("for your family" in English) workshop series is a fun, activity based educational program about the management and prevention of diabetes. Available in both English and Spanish.
Project POWER is a faith-based program for the African American community which provides church health ministries with the training and materials necessary to integrate diabetes awareness and healthy living into their church programming.
Central Texas will be launching Project POWER in the summer of 2014 and we'd love to have your church or community group involved!

School Walk for Diabetes
School Walk for Diabetes is an educational, school fundraising program that promotes healthy living and diabetes awareness. It starts with an engaging kick off where students learn how the body processes food, including key terms like glucose and insulin, the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and steps they can take to prevent type 2 diabetes. Students then participate in a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association and the program concludes with a School Walk for Diabetes event. Each school has the freedom to make their School Walk for Diabetes event unique! Schools do a variety of fun activities including have a challege for most laps walked, release balloons in honor of those living with or who have passed from diabetes, have a carnival, hold a "Dance Away Diabetes" event...the sky is the limit!
Stop Diabetes @ Work

- An online Employer Portal that provides resources to share with staff like co-branded handouts and online tools.
- An online Employee Website that provides employees with a webpage with tips on living a healthy lifestyle.
In addition, Stop Diabetes @ Work provides employees with team-building activities that take place in the community via the Association’s events.
