Meet the Staff

Dori Yeater
Manager, Step Out Walk and School Walk

Dori currently manages the School Walk for Diabetes and Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. She decided to join this organization four years ago because of her love of nonprofit work and her family history of diabetes. "My Paw Paw passed from diabetes complications. I enjoy working for the 26 million Americans who have diabetes and hopefully be a part of finding a CURE, as well as educating children about diabetes prevention."

Before joining the Association, Dori worked as a Community Resource Consultant for the United Way of Greater Kansas City. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, keeping up with Pop Culture, working in her yard, and all things related to Texas A&M.

Mercedes Feris
Manager, Tour de Cure and Gala

Mercedes joined the Association in August of 2011, after gaining valuable experience as the Director of Events at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for three years. She currently coordinates the Tour de Cure and Gala events, and works tirelessly on event planning, fund development, and community outreach. "I truly believe in the mission of the Association and want to make a change with the statistics in the minority populations."

Mercedes moved to Texas to focus on the needs of her family. Although she has been fortunate to live in various cities, she still considers Miami her home. In her down time away from work, she loves to travel and spend time with her kids.

Maryum Mitchell

Maryum is a native Austinite and Associate Manager for the Central Texas office. She enjoys working for the organization because she is passionate about serving others. "I want to see everyone live a healthy, disease-free life and the first steps begin with awareness, education and a willingness to change."

Aside from her work at the American Diabetes Association, Maryum is a member of the Junior League of Austin and recently completed her master's degree in education. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and trying new restaurants in Austin.
