Donor Recognition and Volunteer Appreciation
This page is dedicated to our donors and volunteers who have given their time and resources to help further the mission of the American Diabetes Association and protect those living with diabetes.
We are grateful for their support and would like to recognize and thank them for their compassionate commitment to our organization. It's the continued support of all our donors and volunteers throughout the years that makes the American Diabetes Association successful in raising money for diabetes research, advocating on behalf of those living with diabetes and offering support and guidance to those who need a helping hand.
Thank you for making a difference in the lives of 25.8 million people living with diabetes today!
Volunteer Recognition Event
McCormick Place – Scientific Sessions
June 23, 2013
Our Volunteer Recognition Event is held each year to honor and celebrate the work of our area volunteers, sponsors, donors and fundraisers. The goal of the Association's Stop Diabetes movement is three fold:
- To EDUCATE the general public about the devastating physical, emotional and financial toll diabetes wreaks every hour, every day, and every year on tens of millions of American children and adults;
- To IGNITE a sense of urgency about diabetes and its deadly consequences; and
- To INSPIRE individuals, families, communities, corporations and health care providers to get involved and join the movement to change the future of diabetes.
The 2013 Volunteer Awards recognized the individuals in our market who have had the most significant impact on the Stop Diabetes movement in the previous year in the following four categories:
SHARE: Recognizes individuals working to build a community through personal stories and experiences to create hope for a cure. This volunteer inspires others to join the movement.
ACT: Engaged in the Association through volunteer opportunities, fundraising events and/or grassroots advocacy. This volunteer may also help a friend or a loved one manage their diabetes.
LEARN: This volunteer encourages access to information such as through community-based outreach programs; provides culturally relevant information on diabetes management, nutrition, lifestyle, and prevention. For people with diabetes or at risk of developing the disease, this volunteer helps them to find information on prevention and management, the latest medical news and lifestyle advice that can lower the chances of complications or lower their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
GIVE: This volunteer gives substantially their time and/or their financial contributions to help fund outreach and educational programs, advocacy efforts and critical diabetes research. Their passion gives hope.
