Step Out Walk TeamOur special events help raise critical funds for educational programs, advocacy and research while forwarding the mission of the American Diabetes Association: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

Tour de Cure® and MB Financial Bike the Drive

Tour de Cure® 2013Tour de Cure is a cycling event that is a ride, not a race. The routes are designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. Over 1,500 participants choose from 10, 15, 30, 60 or 100 mile route options and each route is supported from start to finish with rest stops, food to fuel the journey and fans to cheer them on. The event concludes with a festival at the event site at a new location for 2013, Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora!

Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes®

Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes®Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is the American Diabetes Association's signature fundraising event, held in more than 200 cities during the fall. With nearly 25.8 million Americans living with diabetes, the Association created Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes as an aggressive campaign against the disease — and a cry of hope for those affected by it.

At the events, routes are 3-5 miles and are accessible to people of all ages and levels of mobility. Along the walk, participants are supported by volunteers offering water, nutritious snacks, entertainment and encouragement. The events draw a large contingency of individuals and teams, comprised of families, friends and corporations, all walking and raising money in support of the Association.

Father of the Year

Father of the YearFather of the Year is an event that honors outstanding fathers for their ability to successfully balance their professional and personal lives while making an impact in the community. The evening consists of a seated dinner and an awards presentation honoring the Fathers of the Year.

The 2013 Father of the Year Chairman is Martin H. Nesbitt, Co-Founder and Co-Chief Executive Officer of The Vistria Group, LLC.

School Walk for Diabetes

School Walk LogoSchool Walk for Diabetes is an ongoing educational school fundraising program that promotes healthy living, school spirit and community involvement. While raising money for the American Diabetes Association, students learn about diabetes and the importance of making healthy choices.

School Walk for Diabetes may be held any time during the school year, as an all school event or as part of regularly scheduled P.E. classroom activities. The event may take place indoors or outdoors, depending on the time of the year and may be any distance or length of time that the school determines.

Friends for the Cure, Party of the Cure Event

Friends for the Cure LogoThe Friends for the Cure committee was formed by Margery Teller with a group of dedicated friends and business associates in response to Margie's daughter's diagnosis with type 1 diabetes. Trading success has allowed Margie to champion the diabetes cause, but one individual cannot pursue this mission alone. Together the Friends have a vision of uniting the top individuals and corporations in the Chicago area to meet the financial challenge, supporting critical type 1 research that will produce the cure for this devastating disease. Together, Friends for the Cure has raised nearly 1.5 million dollars toward this mission.

Party of the Cure is hosted by Friends for the Cure, a committee dedicated to ending diabetes. Proceeds from this event support the American Diabetes Association.
