Touched by Type 1 Online Support Group

Touched by Type 1 (TBT1) is both an online and "in person" T1 diabetes support group. We are a casual way for families and caregivers to chat about what goes on in the life of T1 diabetes management. Kids range from young and newly diagnosed to teens and veterans. There are ALWAYS discussions at all ages and we have several support groups that meet in person monthly. Email Melissa_laskey@hotmail.com for info about your area. Current support groups exist in Rockford, Bolingbook, Geneva/St. Charles and Plainfield.

FREE Family Fun! Join us! Fun activities for kids with diabetes ages 8-18 and their parents. If kids are under 8, parents are encouraged to come without kids. In the future there may be activities available for younger kids.

Different topics each month, email gilmorefamily2@comcast.net for this month's topic.

Provides fun physical fitness for kids, PLUS, includes separate educational presentations and discussion sessions for parents during the same time period. Kids have a chance to talk also. Free and open to the public/RSVP important to gilmorefamily2@comcast.net.

Type 2 Diabetes Support Group

Located at Our Lady of the Resurrection 5645 W. Addison, Chicago, Centennial Conference Room A on the 7th floor of the hospital

Diabetes Support group is primarily for middle-aged and senior person with Type 2 diabetes. This interactive support group, facilitated by a certified diabetes educator, provides participants with information about how to more effectively control blood glucose levels. Participants are encouraged to share their feelings and coping strategies. Free sessions are held the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. No registration is required. Adult Type 1 Support Group

Individuals with type 1 diabetes and their families come together to share their experiences. Group led by CDE and a licensed clinical professional counselor who also has type 1 diabetes and is an insulin pump user.

  • Support group held every third Monday of the month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Comprehensive Class Overview

This Medicare-approved program will cover a variety of topics in three two-hour classes which will be offered on three consecutive days. Topics include: diabetes overview, understanding medications, healthy eating, foot care, stress management, coping, changing behavior, and exercise. These programs are offered monthly and are held at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital at 450 West Highway 22, Barrington, IL. 60010

Individual Education Counseling

Individual sessions for prediabetes, type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. These sessions include a comprehensive assessment of individual needs. Sessions consist of appointments with both a Registered Nurse and a Registered Dietitian. Topics include: self-monitoring of blood glucose, nutrition, diabetes care techniques, medication review and more.
