Californians are increasingly feeling the effects of diabetes as thousands of people suffer from the disease, and many others may have diabetes and not know it! It is estimated that one out of every three children born after 2000 in the United States will be directly affected by diabetes.
That is why the American Diabetes Association's Costa Mesa office is so committed to educating the public about how to stop diabetes and support those living with the disease.
We are here to help.

27th Annual Diabetes Family Retreat
January 24-26, 2014
UCLA Conference Center, Lake Arrowhead California
Family Retreat provides a weekend long fun and educational program for children with type 1 diabetes and their families. Families come from all over Southern California. This program is especially beneficial to families living with a newly diagnosed child. Children will learn new skills in a fun and relaxed setting alongside kids their same age. Most of the kid's counselors also live with type 1 diabetes. Adult sessions will present the latest in pediatric diabetes care taught by Pediatric Endocrinologists, Diabetes Researchers, Psychologists and Registered Dieticians, all of whom specialize in the dynamics of families with diabetes. The 2014 guest speaker will be NASCAR Nationwide Series race car driver Ryan Reed. Ryan will share his personal story of how he manages type 1 diabetes alongside the demands of a professional racing career.
