Texans are increasingly feeling the effects of diabetes as over 2,841,000 residents suffer from this disease. Many others may have diabetes and not know it! It is estimated that one out of every three children born after 2000 in the United States will be directly affected by diabetes.
Want to know your risk? Risk Test.
That is why the American Diabetes Association's North Texas office is so committed to educating the public about how to stop diabetes and support those living with the disease. We are here to help.
Camp New Horizons & Camp Aurora
Camp New Horizons and Camp Aurora are lifelines for children with diabetes to develop the critical skills needed to thrive while managing this disease. Attending summer camp helps children develop social skills, self-respect and life-long friendships. Camp New Horizons and Camp Aurora give kids the opportunity to meet other kids just like them while fostering independence, building self-confidence and gaining an awareness of a healthy lifestyle through education, nutrition, exercise, emotional well-being and glucose control.
Become a Diabetes Advocate!
Life isn't fair for people with diabetes. First, there is the simple fact of coping with a chronic illness. Second, there are the barriers that prevent people with diabetes from enjoying the same opportunities at the rest of the population. Our Advocacy efforts work to bring down the barriers and fund critical diabetes research. Take action and become a Diabetes Advocate today!
