Diabetes Self Management
The American Diabetes Association has partnered with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the Colorado Department of Human Services and Central Colorado AHEC to train ADA staff and volunteers as Master Trainers and Lay Leaders that can offer Chronic Disease Self Management (CDSMP) and Diabetes Self Management (DSMP) workshops. Workshops last for six weeks and the Association is currently offering workshops in both English and Spanish.
The six week program enables participants to feel better, be in control and lead an independent life. Each class addresses different aspects of disease management including healthy eating, physical activity, communicating with your health care provider, complications, medications, managing pain and much more. The program was developed at the Stanford University Patient Education Research Center and has proven success since 2006. To learn about an upcoming workshop go to the Be Well Colorado Website or call Toll Free: 1-877-495-2604.
