Iowa, Nebraska & South Dakota
Iowans, Nebraskan and South Dakotans are increasingly feeling the effects of diabetes as thousands of people suffer from the disease, and many others may have diabetes and not know it! It is estimated that one out of every three children born after 2050 in the United States will be directly affected by diabetes.
That is why the American Diabetes Association is so committed to educating the public about how to stop diabetes and support those living with the disease.
We are here to help.
This office serves the states of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
The Diabetes Busters program was developed by professionals in the field of education, nursing, nutrition, physical education and fitness from the University of Iowa, the Iowa City School District and the American Diabetes Association to present information about diabetes to 4th graders in a fun and interesting way that engage students. It is set up in three different stations that each child visits: one focusing on diabetes education, one focusing on nutrition and one focusing on exercise.
