Some of you may have just found out that you have diabetes and may be worried, confused or scared. Some of you may have found out a long time ago. Either way, it can take some time to get used to living with diabetes. We have found out that meeting with other kids with diabetes can really help: to know you're not the only one with diabetes and to talk about things you have in common.

Diabetes 101 for the Newly Diagnosed Diabetic
Diabetes is the fifth-deadliest disease in the United States, and it has no cure. People with diabetes are at much greater risk for heart attacks, strokes and high blood pressure. However, you can take control of your diabetes by making lifestyle changes and with medical management and education. Join Geralyn Spollet, APRN, Yale Diabetes Center, as she explores the nuts and bolts of diabetes, talks about the different organs involved in controlling blood glucose, healthy eating recommendations, exercise and home monitoring that improves care.
Tuesday, April 17, 2012 – Shoreline Medical Center – 111 Goose Lane, Guilford, CT
Thursday, November 8, 2012 – Hamden Professional Center – 2560 Dixwell Avenue Hamden, CT
Diabetes Medication and Coping Skills
Diabetes can be overwhelming, unless you partner with your healthcare providers to better manage the disease. The introduction of new medications to treat diabetes has posed questions like: What medications are the best? How do I know which ones are right for me? Are there side effects I should know about? Feeling confused and looking for some answers? Join Geralyn Spollet, APRN, Yale Diabetes Center, as she talks about: easy use of insulin, new drugs and devices, combination drug therapy for type 2 diabetes and why it works, potholes in the road to good glucose control and diabetes burnout.
Tuesday, May 15, 2012 – Shoreline Medical Center – 111 Goose Lane, Guilford, CT
Thursday, October 11, 2012 – Hamden Professional Center – 2560 Dixwell Avenue Hamden, CT
