Honolulu — At 11:30am a Genesis Aviation helicopter will drop 2,000 numbered golf balls onto hole C-9 at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club on Thursday, August 2, 2012. Each numbered ball will have an assigned ticket. The bearer of each ticket has a chance to win a trip for 2 to Las Vegas with accommodations from Vacations Hawaii and California Hotel, $500 Chevron gas cards, or a 16 gb iPad 2 from Best Buy, all in support of the American Diabetes Association's (ADA) 18th Annual "Driving Fore A Cure" golf tournament, presented by Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc.

"This will be a wonderful day as we drive for a cure to Stop Diabetes," said Mike Ching, event co-chair, Chairman of the Hawaii Community Leadership Board, and partner at Ernst & Young, LLP. "Participants will enjoy a beautiful course, great prizes, and help the ADA fund research and stop the spread of diabetes, which affects more than 113,000 Hawaii residents and their families."

"In order to Stop Diabetes and its deadly consequences, we aim to increase prevention awareness opportunities to the estimated 357,700 Hawaii residents, aged 20 and older, who have prediabetes," said Garan Ito, Director of Pathology Services Clinical Labs and Biorepository of The Queen’s Medical Center and event co-chair. "We want to decrease these statistics by informing the public about activities that support a healthy lifestyle."

"With as many as 28,000 Hawaii residents unaware that they have diabetes, we are dedicated to promoting diabetes awareness to as many individuals as possible," said Richard Okazaki, member of the ADA Hawaii Advisory Board and President, Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc., "We are delighted to continue our commitment to support the ADA and return each year as the Presenting Sponsor."

Prizes include hole-in-one awards of $5,000 in cash from Seven Eleven Hawaii and Servco Pacific, new cars from Mercedes Benz of Honolulu and New City Nissan, and a beautifully crafted Martin & MacArthur Solid Koa Rocking Chair.

Shotgun starts at noon on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club (91-1200 Fort Weaver Road, Ewa Beach) and will be followed by an awards banquet at the Bird of Paradise Restaurant.
