Honolulu — At 11:30 a.m., a Genesis Aviation helicopter will drop 2,000 numbered golf balls onto hole C-9 at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club on Thursday, August 1, 2013. Each numbered ball will have a corresponding numbered ticket. The bearer of each ticket has a chance to win a trip for 2 to Las Vegas with accommodations from Vacations Hawaii & California Hotel, also courtesy of Gino Soquena, a $500 City Mill gift card courtesy of City Mill Company of Hawaii, or a 16 GB iPad 2 from Best Buy, all in support of the American Diabetes Association's 19th Annual "Driving Fore A Cure" Golf Tournament, presented by Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc.

"I share the American Diabetes Association's vision: a life free of diabetes and all its burdens," says Colby Kisaba, event co-chair, ADA Hawaii Community Leadership Board Member, and Chief Financial Officer of MW Group, Ltd. "Our goal is for the golfers to have a great experience golfing, participating in our silent auction, receiving prizes, and helping the ADA fund research to stop the spread of diabetes, which is estimated to affect over 113,000 Hawaii residents and their families."

";As a health care professional, I have seen firsthand the implications of poorly managed or uncontrolled diabetes. Within a 10-year period, we have seen close to a 100% increase in lower limb amputations, 98% of which were caused directly by the complications of diabetes. We want to decrease these statistics by educating the public about activities that support and promote a healthy lifestyle to curb the diabetes epidemic here in Hawaii" said Garan Ito, Director of Pathology Services Clinical Labs and Biorepository at The Queen's Medical Center, event co-chair, and member of the ADA Hawaii Community Leadership Board.

"1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless we take steps to Stop Diabetes," said Richard Okazaki, member of the ADA Hawaii Advisory Board and President, Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc., "DLS is a proud supporter of the Association and pleased to return each year as the Presenting Sponsor of the "Driving Fore A Cure" Golf Tournament."

Prizes include hole-in-one awards of $5,000 from Seven-Eleven Hawaii and Servco Pacific, and four cars from Mercedes Benz of Honolulu (at separate holes) – cars range from their 2013 C Class four door Sedans and 2013 GLK 350 SUVs.

Shotgun start will be at noon on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club (91-1200 Fort Weaver Road, Ewa) and followed by an awards banquet at the Bird of Paradise Restaurant.

Tickets for the Golf Ball Drop event are given for a donation of $10 each.
