The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading source of diabetes information and services for both medical professionals and the general public on all types of diabetes including:

• type 1
• type 2
• pre-diabetes
• gestational diabetes

Diabetes affects Indiana at a rate higher than the national average. Currently, the Indiana State Department of Health estimates that there are:

• over 714,000 Hoosiers who have diabetes
• 1.6 million Hoosiers have pre-diabetes and will likely develop diabetes later in life

If we continue as we are today, one in three of our children will face a future with diabetes. The number is one in two for minority children.

We cannot let diabetes make that the future for our children. Our supporters are the best hope to change the future of diabetes. With your help, the sooner we find the causes and preventions for diabetes, the better for our loved ones, the future of our children and all people affected by this devastating disease.

The complications of diabetes are deadly. They include:

• heart disease
• *blindness
• *kidney failure
• *stroke
• *amputation
• *depression and more

Diabetes increases the risk of heart failure 2-4 times and doubles the risk of depression. Diabetes typically shortens a person’s life by 8 years. Eighty percent of diabetes is related to lifestyle (nutrition and exercise).

Diabetes is not merely a condition. It is an epidemic. Drastic action is needed, and a new hope is required. We need your support to help Stop Diabetes!
