2013 Calendar of Events in Louisiana

   

"8 Days to Stop Diabetes" is a series of activities to target our at-risk populations living in our community. We will work to provide a variety of information to the public and hope you can join us at one of the scheduled activities. March 20, 2013 - 8 Days to Stop Diabetes Series Kickoff

  • Diabetes Lecture at Norman Mayer Library
    3001 Gentilly Blvd, New Orleans, LA
    10:00 a.m. to Noon
    A lecture on the prevalence of diabetes locally as well as prevention and management tips.

  • Grocery Store Tour
    New Orleans Food Co-Op, 2372 St. Claude Ave, New Orleans, LA
    10:00 a.m. to Noon
    Join us as our volunteer dietitian shows the importance of portion control when choosing your fruits and vegetables, as well as how to read a Nutrition Label.
  • Healthcare for the Homless Presenation
    2222 Simon Bolivar Ave, New Orleans, LA
    1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m
    This presentation will cover diabetes complications, with a specific focus on foot health. his presentation is open to the public.

  • Second Harvesters Food Bank Distribution
    2653 Jean Lafitte Hwy, Lafitte, LA
    10:00 a.m. to Noon
    A volunteer dietitian will be providing nutrition tips to individuals visiting the mobile pantry unit. Risk assessment and nutrition information will be available to patrons.
  • Lunchtime Workout
    We are encouraging gyms/health clubs, organizations and companies to urge your members and employees to take part in an active lunch. Visit a local gym, take the stairs, walk to lunch - do what you can to fit more steps into your day.

  • Walking Club Kickoff

    We are looking for volunteers to help us kickoff our walking club. Ideally, we see the walking club meeting monthly before the Step Out event in November.

  • Family Link Outing
    Tammany Trace, Mandeville, LA
    10:00 a.m. to Noon, Covered Area 1
    For our families living with a child that has diabetes, we invite you to take part in our Spring Family Link Outing. We will provide lunch options, as well as activities for the kids, and will cover topics such as Camp, Safe at School and Tour with our parents. Come out for a fun-filled morning and get in-the-know on what is going on with Association in the coming months.

  • Empowerment Sunday
    We will be working with area churches to distribute diabetes awareness messages to congregations. If your congregation is interested in utilizing our resources for an Empowerment Service, please contact Treva Lincoln at tlincoln@diabetes.org.

  • East Jefferson Hospital "Living Well with Diabetes" Health Fair
    11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    The fair is for individuals with diabetes and their caretakers features presentations about eye disease, exercise, how to cook diabetic friendly meals and more. Stop by the Association's booth.
  • Dribble to Stop Diabetes
    This is an NBA/WNBA/D-League FIT initiative supported by the American Diabetes Association and Sanofi US to encourage basketball fans to live an active, healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about diabetes prevention and management. Find the Stop Diabetes table on the area concourse that night and receive pamphlets, risk tests, noisemakers, fans and more!

  • Camp Victory
