Diabetes is a costly epidemic that continues to increase in prevalence. The nationwide estimated economic burden of diagnosed diabetes in 2012 was $245 billion. In 2010, New York and New Jersey adults diagnosed with diabetes totaled 1,321,800 and 625,200, respectively. As a community, we can do a better job of addressing this public health problem through awareness, research and improved health care.
People With Diagnosed Diabetes Suffer Daily
In New York and New Jersey, 66.7% and 58.8%, respectively, of adults with diagnosed diabetes reported having at least one day of poor health in the previous month.
