Deanie has been with the American Diabetes Association since July 2000. Before she joined the association as a staff member, she served as an Association volunteer. With diabetes on both sides of her family, Deanie has seen the devastating complications that can result from this disease, and this mission is very personal to her. Deanie’s wish is for a world without diabetes, and she is incredibly grateful to everyone who has joined the “STOP Diabetes” movement and supports the important work of our association. Deanie is a graduate of the University of Richmond and lives with her family in Chesapeake.

Amie has been with the American Diabetes Association since April 2002. She has a family history with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and is very passionate about finding a cure. She is a native to the Hampton Roads area.  Amie is a graduate of Old Dominion University and lives with her family in Chesapeake.

Shelby has been with the American Diabetes Association since November 2007. She is currently in her fourth year of managing Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and works very closely with other local Association events. Shelby is a Virginia Beach native and graduated from James Madison University in 2007.

Robin began working at the American Diabetes Association August of 2010 after beginning her career with Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. She loves being back at the beach and working for the Association to help STOP Diabetes. Robin is a Virginia Beach native and a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

“I have a personal stake in finding a cure for diabetes. Diabetes is in my family’s genes (both Type 1 and Type 2). Every day at the Asssociation is an opportunity to make a small difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. Through community programs and teaching I get to empower people to better manage this disease until we find a cure. Education is the key to lift the veil for a brighter tomorrow.” Lawrence joined the association in February 2011.

Hee Jea joined the American Diabetes Association in February 2011. She is a Richmond native although she is happy to call Hampton Roads her home now. Hee Jea’s family has a history of type 2 diabetes, and she is looking forward to the day we find a cure.
