Diabetes Educators

Find a Recognized Education Program Near You.

Arizonans are increasingly feeling the effects of diabetes. Today, one in nine people living in Arizona have diabetes - this amounts to nearly 500,000 Arizonans affected by diabetes. In 2012 alone, the estimated cost of diagnosed diabetes was $245 billion. The American Diabetes Association can provide resources for you and your family about all types of diabetes as well as information for caregivers and others affected indirectly by the disease.

The American Diabetes Association's Phoenix office is committed to educating our communities about how to stop diabetes and supporting those living with the disease. More than 200 volunteers and staff members work tirelessly each day to coordinate advocacy efforts, educational programs and fundraising events to Stop Diabetes. To get involved, attend one of our many events and programs or contact us for volunteer opportunities in your area.

If you would like more information about diabetes, call 1-800-DIABETES (800-342-2383). We are here to help!

The Passage of Arizona House Bill 2042

Heather CarterThe American Diabetes Association (Association) is pleased to announce the passage of Arizona House Bill 2042, a key piece of legislation in the fight to keep children with diabetes medically safe at school. This bill, which was signed by Governor Janice Brewer on April 11, allows school staff to volunteer to be trained to assist children with diabetes with insulin administration and allows children, if they are capable to do so, to self-manage their diabetes while at school.

The bill was sponsored by Arizona State Representative Heather Carter (R – District 7), who took office in 2011. Representative Carter is the Chair of the House Health Committee, and a member of the Education and Environment Committees. She focuses on legislative issues related to health care and education reform.
