Ongoing Phoenix Programs
Awakening the Spirit
Awakening the Spirit is a series of educational materials and advocacy activities targeting the Native American community. Program strategies work to increase awareness in the Native American community about the American Diabetes Association and the many resources available for people with diabetes and their families.
Family Link
The Family Link program is designed to link newly diagnosed families with parent volunteers who provide information and support. Family Link has three components: linking families to each other, educating and advocating on behalf of families and hosting social events for families.
Por tu Familia
The Por tu Familia programs provide valuable diabetes information in English and Spanish to communities that are disproportionately affected by this disease. This program's goal is to represent, involve and impact the Latino community with culturally relevant materials and strategies in the Association's research, information and advocacy efforts.
School Walk for Diabetes
The School Walk for Diabetes program is an educational program and a fundraising event. The event is done in elementary, middle and high schools in Arizona. The event teaches students, through games and activities, the benefits of physical activity, how to eat the right foods (with or without diabetes) and that they have the power to affect lives in their own community. Funds are raised by students who then win prizes for themselves and sports equipment for their schools.
