Locally Funded Research

   

The mission of the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation is to ensure the availability of funds necessary for the full exploration of all the scientific possibilities that diabetes research is generating. The American Diabetes Association has been funding innovative diabetes research since 1955.

Currently, the Oregon & SW Washington area is host to three funded research projects totaling $1,276,634.

Improving health through Skype: Family-based intervention for teens with poorly controlled diabetes

General Research Subject: Type 1 Diabetes

Focus: The goal of this research project is to test whether tele-Behavioral Family System Therapy (BFST) is equally or more effective than clinic-based treatment. If tele-BFST is helpful, then efforts to increase dissemination to larger numbers of youth with T1DM can be pursued via Skype™.

Focus: The goal of this research project is to gain insight into the diabetes-causing potential of change in the common human SLC30A8 gene.
