Welcome to the Stop Diabetes Initiative!
The American Diabetes Association's Stop Diabetes Initiative (SDI) aims to educate and empower families to take ownership of their health, increase their knowledge of healthy lifestyle choices and use available resources to prevent diabetes and the serious complications of diabetes.
The Association is currently partnering with individuals affected by type 2 diabetes and their families, health providers, employers, pharmacies and schools in South Snohomish County to increase awareness of the risks for type 2 diabetes, preventing diabetes and related complications, and improving confidence in diabetes self-management.
Individuals and/or families who live, work or attend school in South Snohomish County and have one or more family members enrolled in the Association's free Living with Type 2 Diabetes program are invited to participate. Enrolled individuals and their family members (adults and children), including those not affected by diabetes, are eligible to participate in free workshops and access free resources available through the Stop Diabetes Initiative.
Employers registered in the Stop Diabetes @ Work program are invited to attend the Stop Diabetes Awards Breakfast in November. Register and learn more. Note: priority seating will be available for employers located in South Snohomish County.

Stop Diabetes @ Work
Diabetes accounts for 15 million work days absent, 120 million work days reduced performance, six million reduced productivity days for those not in the work place, and an additional 107 million work days lost due to unemployment disability attributed to diabetes. People with diagnosed diabetes, on average, have medical expenditures that are approximately 2.3 times higher than those without diabetes.
The Association partners with Northwest employers to provide access to on-site health education and resources to detect, prevent, and manage diabetes in the workplace. More than 8,000 employees have benefited from this workplace program. For more information about the Stop Diabetes @ Work program, please contact us.
