Seattle EXPO

The American Diabetes Association EXPO in Seattle provided health screenings, educational seminars, product demonstrations and interactive exhibitions make this vast trade show a fun and informative event for more than 5,000 attendees this year. Notable attractions included cooking and active living demonstrations, youth, family and senior living activities. The 24th annual ADA Family Retreat for families of children with type 1 diabetes came to EXPO for this first time this year as well! EXPO is American Diabetes Association's largest event, bringing businesses, health care providers, patients, caregivers and community members together for mutual benefit.

Diabetes Camp

The Association will serve 75 families with diabetes in Western Washington at Camp Sealth this year. Camp gives children with diabetes the unique opportunity to better manage their disease and build friendships with other children with diabetes, while enjoying a variety of recreational activities in a safe, supportive environment. Full medical teams are on staff to ensure the health and safety of kids during their camp adventures.

Family Link

Family Link - 200x85

Family Link fosters relationships between families who are dealing with diabetes by hosting events for children of all ages, their siblings and parents. The Association further supports families by providing linkages with schools and clinics, as well as diabetes news updates and other information and educational resources.

The American Diabetes Association Family Retreat, having taken place at the 2014 Seattle EXPO, gives parents of children with type 1 diabetes vital diabetes education and the chance to connect with other parents to build their own support network.

Stop Diabetes Initiative

For residents of South Snohomish County - The Stop Diabetes Initiative (SDI) aims to educate and empower families to take ownership of their health, increase their knowledge of healthy lifestyle choices and use available resources to prevent diabetes and the serious complications of diabetes.

Stop Diabetes @ Work

Diabetes accounts for 15 million work days absent, 120 million work days reduced performance, six million reduced productivity days for those not in the work place, and an additional 107 million work days lost due to unemployment disability attributed to diabetes. People with diagnosed diabetes, on average, have medical expenditures that are approximately 2.3 times higher than those without diabetes.

The Association partners with Northwest employers to provide access to on-site health education and resources to detect, prevent, and manage diabetes in the workplace. More than 8,000 employees have benefited from this workplace program.
